Artist Uses 10,000 Pigeon Feathers in Striking Installation That Cascades From a Bookcase

For London-based sculptor Kate MccGwire, repurposing found materials into illusory works of art is a central part of the creative process. She says, “I gather, collate, re-use, layer, peel, burn, reveal, locate, question, duplicate, play, and photograph.” Her recent installation Discharge is a sinuous five-meter-tall sculpture that cascades from a massive wooden bookcase. MccGwire used approximately 10,000 gray and white pigeon feathers to create the striking curved shape and undulating waves at the base.

Filmmaker Captures Amazing Creation of Enormous Flower Carpet in Brussels

Every other summer in Brussels, a small army of volunteers carefully places thousands of colorful begonias across the Grand Place to form a magnificent Flower Carpet.  The city's central square (a UNESCO World Heritage site) has hosted the event since 1971. Each year, designers and landscapers come together to choose a theme and create an enormous template to be placed upon the cobblestones.
