Realistic Origami Dinosaurs Look Just Like Museum Models

Adam Tran's exquisite origami models of prehistoric creatures look just like realistic models from museum exhibits. The artist uses textured paper and intricate folds to create leathery figures of dinosaurs, insects and entire skeletons frozen in poses of convincing motion. He achieves shapes that seem impossible given the material. With his touch, pieces of paper transform into jagged teeth, spiny bones and sharp claws.

Intricately Carved 16-Century Prayer Nuts Open to Reveal Incredibly Detailed Scenes

Owned mainly by the wealthy in northern Europe, a prayer nut was as much a status symbol as a sign of faith, as only those with money could afford them. The decorative items are small, measuring only a few inches in diameter.

Historical Portraits of African Female Warriors by Street Artist YZ

French street artist YZ pays tribute to African female warriors in her series of wheat-pasted works called Amazone. The historical portraits reference the highly-trained military women of the First Franco-Dahomean War in the 1890s, who, according to accounts, were actively fighting and killing the French. These larger-than-life renderings grace the walls of a few cities on the west coast of Senegal. They have a special significance, too.
