Over 200 contemporary artists from all around the world, including South Africa, Israel, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan, have come to this area to create original artworks using materials found right on the land.

Artist Tracks Her Own Kinetic Movement Directly Onto Paper

New Orleans-based visual artist Heather Hansen explores the combined art of painting and movement for her experimental project titled Emptied Gestures. Like a kinetic performance piece, the artist uses her own body to illustrate action on a two-dimensional surface. Rather than using any brushes or other tools to protect herself, Hansen gets down and dirty, shifting the dark pigment with her own body.

Complex Graffiti Machine Produces Vibrant Rainbows

In 2010, Swedish street artist Akay created Tool No. 10: Robo-Rainbow in an ongoing series of Instruments of Mass Destruction, which he further describes as “complicated technical solutions to aid in simple acts of vandalism.” Obviously, the words ‘mass destruction' are used lightly here, considering that the artist has no malicious intentions and ends up producing a bit of cheerful color on otherwise bare, deserted walls.
