City of Toronto Helps Artist Find Sentimental Sketchbook He Worked on for 10 Years

For many artists, sketchbooks are important tools to document their ideas and creative progress. Toronto-based artist Dmitry Bondarenko kept a hard-wearing journal for 10 years, using it to illustrate trips back home to Russia and practice painting in gouache and acrylic, among other things. That is why, when he noticed it missing after his bike ride, he was rightly devastated.

Massive Flamingo Installation Lands at Florida Airport

Since late 2022, an enormous flamingo has taken up residence at the Tampa International Airport. Artist Matthew Mazzotta created the giant flamingo as a tribute to Florida's most recognizable bird and to the comings and goings of the travelers who pass through the airport. Titled HOME, the oversize installation has become a favorite of travelers, whether it's adults taking selfies or children playing on its legs.

David Hockney’s Portrait of Harry Styles Will Exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery

When the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe, life came to a standstill as closures effectively shut down the world. That included the National Portrait Gallery's David Hockney exhibit, which had only been open for 20 days. Now, the London Museum is restaging David Hockney: Drawing from Life, and expanding it to include 33 recent portraits. Among the new entries is a delightful portrait of Harry Styles, which Hockney painted in spring 2022.

Much like vinyl did a few years ago, cassette tapes seem to be having a resurgence. So what better time to pay tribute to these portable music vessels? Photographer Amy Corson creates portraits of famous musicians with the magnetic black tape within cassette tapes. From rock stars such as John Lennon and George Harrison to country legends like Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, the artist celebrates figures from a wide array of genres.
