Sculptor Turns Fallen Branches Into Mythical Beasts and Larger-Than-Life Animals

While most people see tree branches, twigs, and shrubs, Warsaw-based artist Rodolfo Liprandi sees raw materials for creating sculptures. He transforms found forest debris into larger-than-life animals and mythical creatures, shaping forms that look as though they’ve grown straight from the forest floor. Liprandi grew up in northeastern Italy near the Slovenian border, where the surrounding landscape was a constant source of inspiration.

Long-Lost Robert Burns Portrait Has Reemerged After 200 Years

When Dr. William Zachs attended an auction in London last March, he was in pursuit of something very specific: a long-lost painting of the world-renowned Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns. The work had been painted in 1802, some six years after Burns’ death, by Henry Raeburn, who also happened to be a revered Scottish artist. But only a few decades later, the canvas vanished.

Jitish Kallat’s Staircase Installation Transforms the Art Institute of Chicago

Installed on the Art Institute of Chicago’s Woman’s Board Grand Staircase, Public Notice 3 is a site-specific installation by Jitish Kallat that occupies all 118 stair risers. Rather than existing within a gallery, the work is integrated directly into a primary circulation space. This requires visitors to encounter the installation as they move through the museum.
