Beautifully Haunting Graffiti at Chernobyl

Photographer Jan Smith reached out to us to tell us about a beautifully haunting photo series he shot at Chernobyl (here's the first). It's been exactly 26 years since the catastrophic nuclear accident occurred in the Ukrainian city. In 1986, the city was evacuated and today it is mostly uninhabited, save for a small number of people.

Soothing Minimalist Black and White Photos

If you are in need of a calm moment during your busy day, we highly recommend taking a look at these soothing black and white photographs by Gavin Dunbar. The Edinburgh-based photographer focuses mainly on seascapes and minimalist subjects in these long-exposure images. He finds everyday objects, like a rock or a wooden post, and turns them into geometric, high-contrast patterns against soft, blended and blurry backgrounds.

Real Photos of the the Titanic 100 Years Later

Next week will mark the 100th anniversary of the sunken tragedy that is the Titanic. To coincide with the historic event, National Geographic Magazine is unveiling, in their April 2012 edition, new photographs that provide a greater understanding of what happened on that fateful day, April 15, 1912. Unlike previous blurred and dark images of sections of the ship, the latest photographs are absolutely clear and reveal the full extent of the wreckage.

Multiple Years Captured in a Single Photograph

It's difficult to believe that a photographer is capable of successfully creating a three-year long exposure on just one single frame, however, German photographer Michael Wesely shows that it's possible in his series entitled Open Shutter. Wesely has spent much of his career working on camera techniques that allow this process to be done. In the mid-1990's, he started capturing building projects and architectural development with long exposures over the course of years.
