Incredibly Elaborate Non-Photoshopped Scenes

Decades before Photoshop was available, American artist Sandy Skoglund started creating surrealist images by building incredibly elaborate sets, a process which took months to complete. Her works are characterized by an overwhelming amount of one object and either bright, contrasting colors or a monochromatic color scheme. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1946, Skoglund studied studio art and art history at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts from 1964-1968.

Starry Stairway to Heaven

With all the streetlights on in our cities at night, we don't get to see many stars. So when we come across an image of the night sky beautifully lit with celestial bodies, we stand back in awe. Landscape photographer Thomas Zimmer, who is based in Germany, took this breathtaking image that looks absolutely unreal!

Historic Battlefields Resting in Peace

Peter Hebeisen, a Swiss photographer, has visited and photographed some of the most historically infamous battlefields throughout Europe. While these lands were once intense scenes of violence and commotion, the photos now capture scenes of tranquility. It's almost as if war was never even ravaged across these beautiful landscapes. The inspiration behind Hebeisen's photos was the idea of coming to terms with the past.

Animals’ Eyes Up Close

Suren Manvelyan, is a bit of a jack of all trades. He has a PhD in Theoretical Physics specializing in Quantum Chaos but has recently turned his attention to photographing the amazing detailed landscapes of eyes. The ones featured here are all from animals and includes a husky dog, snail, Siamese cat, and even a crocodile as well as a few other creatures.
