Photographer Captures the Unique Beauty of 500 Women Around the World

There are many projects that aim to explore concepts of beauty around the world, but perhaps none so dedicated and comprehensive as The Atlas of Beauty. After almost four years of traveling continuously around the world, photographer Mihaela Noroc's portraits of women around the world are being published in a new 352-page book. We've been following her work for years, as she moves everywhere from Afganistan to Tibet, shooting portraits of women who embody the unique beauty of their cultures.

Photographer Travels Around the World to Capture the Unique Beauty of Red Hair

Entertainment photographer Brian Dowling has photographed famous redheads like Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams, but his newest project focuses on the beauty of everyday female redheads. Dowling, an American photographer based in Berlin, spent three summers visiting 20 countries, where he shot portraits of more than 130 women with red hair. His aim is to show the beauty and diversity in this rarest of hair colors.

Insightful Photos Reveal How Differently People Live in Identical Apartments

Romanian photographer Bogdan Grbovan seeks inspiration that literally hits close to home. He currently lives on the 10th floor of a Bucharest apartment building, which was built in 1966 during communist times. To create widespread equality, many of these plain lodgings were constructed with identical apartments to prevent any individualistic forms of expression. In an e-mail, Grbovan describes them to us as “mere boxes” that don't allow for social, cultural, or communicational happenings.

Surreal Self-Portraits Communicate the Isolation of Depression

Edward Honaker's series of dreamlike images expose his personal struggle with depression and allow viewers to further understand the sensitive topic that is mental illness. Diagnosed at 19, the young artist chose to explore the potential of communicating his emotions through a collection of self-portraits. The photographs incite a visceral reaction, unsettling in their stark, black and white compositions. Depression is an isolating illness, lonely and confusing.
