Insightful Photos Reveal How Differently People Live in Identical Apartments

Romanian photographer Bogdan Grbovan seeks inspiration that literally hits close to home. He currently lives on the 10th floor of a Bucharest apartment building, which was built in 1966 during communist times. To create widespread equality, many of these plain lodgings were constructed with identical apartments to prevent any individualistic forms of expression. In an e-mail, Grbovan describes them to us as “mere boxes” that don't allow for social, cultural, or communicational happenings.

Diagnosed at 19, the young artist chose to explore the potential of communicating his emotions through a collection of self-portraits. The project, which has been published as a book, portrays women in a raw, honest way rarely seen on the covers of magazines or on TV screens.

Couples Passionately Kissing by Ben Lamberty

Though at first glance these photos look like stills from the strangers kissing video that went viral, in actuality this series was created even before that video was shot. Last summer, photographer Ben Lamberty took a spontaneous photo of a couple kissing and the photo turned out to be, in his words, “so cool” that he decided he needed to make a series out of it.
