Geometric Thread and Nail Portraits

Pamela Campagna and Thomas Scheiderbauer's thread and nail portraits remind me of the rubberband and pegboard games from kindergarten. But these portraits are in no way child's play. In fact, the intricate details of these portraits take a lot of skill and time to complete. (From start to finish, each piece takes approximately a month.) The designer duo, who are also husband and wife, use old family portraits as inspiration for these designs.

It's amazing how much you can do with two very simple, everyday objects. I love how Campagna and Scheiderbauer strategically placed the nails to give the portraits some contrast. There are darker areas where the thread criss-crosses more often and lighter areas where the thread crosses less. Also, did you notice the small geometric shapes?
