Creatives everywhere are helping us enrich our indoor time as we social distance to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. One of the ways they're doing this is not only fun but relaxing, too. Artists everywhere are introducing free coloring sheets, inviting us to grab a pack of colored pencils and get lost as we fill in their blank spaces. Jordan Bolton, known for celebrating the small things in movies, has recently introduced his own set of coloring sheets inspired by posters he made commemorating Wes Anderson and Hayao Miyazaki films.

Bolton’s work is meticulous in its attention to detail. He takes the defining objects from a film—such as the red caps worn in Anderson's The Life Aquatic or the No-Face mask from Spirited Away—and recreates them in paper and clay. When he has all of these items assembled, he arranges them into eye-pleasing compositions. Each object is presented by itself (but part of a larger group), and this allows us to carefully examine the different elements and consider the role they play in their given film.

The free printable coloring sheets are outlined drawings of Bolton’s compositions. At the top of each page, he offers his suggestions of hues that correspond with his original designs. You could, however, choose your own palette and color your version of the movies. Or, you could do a little of both. Bolton has plenty of coloring pages to choose from—just visit his public Google Docs folder to download the full size and get started.
