MMM Exclusive: Experiencing Jaume Plensa’s "Wonderland"

When I visited Calgary earlier this year to cover Beakerhead, I had the pleasure of walking around the city with an extremely talented photographer, Neil Zeller. When we approached Calgary's tallest tower, The Bow, this amazing sculpture by Jaume Plensa named Wonderland immediately caught my attention. What stood out most was how remarkable it looked from several distinct angles. The wire mesh piece stands 39-feet-high and resembles a young girl's head.

Hypnotic Fusion of Portraits by Antonio Mora

Spanish photographer Antonio Mora fuses standard portraits with landscape, animal, and abstract photography, resulting in extraordinary combinations. His ongoing Dream Portraits transform two separate images by combining them into one frame and thereby reconfiguring their visual power. Playing with opacity and composition, Mora's keen eye finds a likeness in unlikely pairs, turning the limbs of a tree into an extension of a persons face or the profile of a woman into a beautiful tidal wave.

Fun Hopscotch Crosswalks Unveiled in Downtown Baltimore

What a wonderful public arts project! Today, artist Graham Coreil-Allen is officially unveiling his new hopscotch crosswalks on the streets of Baltimore! Called Hopscotch Crosswalk Colossus, it's one of four projects that will eventually turn regular crosswalks in downtown Baltimore into whimsical works of art. Recently, artist Paul Bertholet created a crosswalk that looks like a giant zipper opening (see below)

625 Handmade Submarines Floating Through the Air

For the first time in 25 years, performance, sculpture, and installation artist Chris Burden is presenting a collection of his work, entitled Extreme Measures, in the United States. As part of the exhibition at the New Museum in New York, Burden installed All the Submarines of the United States of America, filling a room with 625 hand-painted cardboard submarines that are suspended from the ceiling at varying lengths.
