Expressive Photorealistic Oil Paintings of People in Water

There's something both sensual and tranquil about artist Linnea Strid‘s photorealistic paintings. The Stockholm, Sweden-based creative's oil paintings depict intriguing portraits of people drenched in water. Strid is able to depict the translucent liquid so effectively that it allows viewers to truly believe that they are looking at a photograph rather than a painting.

Artist Builds Most Narrow House in the World

Narrow House is one of the many ways that Austrian artist Erwin Wurm looks at the world differently and challenges his viewers to do the same. Wurm created this installation based off of his childhood home. Visitors were invited into the living quarters to explore the narrow spaces and slender furniture that filled the house. Everything including the hallways, the bedroom, the living areas, even the toilet, were unusually compressed.

Repetitive Boat Installation Demonstrates a Calm Simplicity

Passageway, Inside-Downside is a recent installation by German conceptual artist Wolfgang Laib and presented by Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac. The piece consisted of small brass boats sitting on top of mounds of rice and arranged precisely along a gallery floor. Alongside the small, organized grouping were also ten drawings and several monumental sculptures that all worked collectively together to produce calm, meditative thoughts.

Surreal Images of New York City Placed in the Grand Canyon

Lithuanian-born, Switzerland-based photographer Gus Petro took a trip to America in 2012, in search of something new, and made two contrasting stops–the Grand Canyon and New York City–that has inspired his three-part series known as Empty, Dense, Merge. In Empty, Petro captures the vacant landscape emitting a sense of peace and solitude. Alternatively, Dense presents the crowded urban landscape of the Big Apple that seemed almost entirely manmade and hard.
