The Faces of Humanity

This past March, National Geographic Magazine released a portrait that will be forever burned into our memory: it was of a “typical” human face. The Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing had collected photos over a course of 10 years and then had digital artist Joe Lertola create a composite image. Earth's seven billion had been reduced to one: a 28-year-old Han Chinese man. (Watch this video for more info.)

Interview Ewan McGregor and Mike Mills for Beginners

If you've been hanging out with us here at theMET, you'll remember that we took off to SF in April to attend the San Francisco international Film Festival on behalf of Saab. Their opening night movie was Beginners, starring the one and only Ewan McGregor. Back then, we promised you an interview that, due to certain “rules,” we could only show you until after the film was officially released.

Car Crash Sculptures

When we see sports cars violently wrapped around a pole, questions immediately start forming inside our heads. How did they find cars like this? Were they taken from real accidents? German artist Dirk Skreber purchased tthe red Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder and black Hyundai Tiburon with the intention of smashing them. He found a vehicle-testing facility in Ohio and choreographed both accidents, before exhibiting them at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Bouncy Ball Photography

Thank God someone captured that magical moment! Danish photographer Peter Funch was on hand when Sony let loose 250,000 colorful bouncy balls into the streets of San Francisco to launch their BRAVIA brand. Do you remember that commercial? Interesting fact: A team of 50 interns was on hand to gather up the balls for the six takes it took in the more than four days to film the advertisement!
