Man Drills a Hole in the Wall and Uncovers a Surprising Stash Pouring Out

Nature is full of surprises. Nick Castro, the owner of California-based company Nick's Extreme Pest Control sees many strange incidences in his line of work. But even he was shocked by what he discovered inside the walls of a client's house in Santa Rosa. What was supposed to be a routine visit to address damage caused by a woodpecker resulted in the uncovering of a stash of thousands (if not millions) of acorns.

Spectacular National Winners of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards

The World Photography Organisation has revealed the National Winners of the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards. Selected from more than 200,000 photos submitted to the Open Competition, these images highlight the best photography from 55 participating countries. This year, the competition added four new regional awards that spotlight the breadth of photographic talent from a range of countries across Europe. Likewise, the Latin American National Award honors photographers from Central and South America.

Supercomputer Can Predict ICU Patient Dangers To Give Healthcare Workers a Warning

A patient in the intensive care unit (ICU) can deteriorate quickly. Doctors may have little to no warning before machines ping, panic sets in, and a patient faces irreparable damage or death from a brain bleed. Many times these crises have been impossible to predict. Data researchers have now combined efforts with the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre in Australia to create a supercomputer which can run an algorithm that predicts—in real-time—impending dangers to patients.
