Futuristic ‘Tower of the Sun’ Building Mimics Kazakhstan Flag with a Window to Ishim River

Taking inspiration from the country's flag, Fundamental Architects and Omega Render are proposing a futuristic new building in Kazakhstan. Spanning the width of the Ishim River in Astana, the building's circular cutout both provides views downriver and is a subtle nod toward the country’s national emblem. The concept is one of three proposals that BI GROUP, the country's largest developer, is considering for the site.

Striking Underwater Portraits Reflect Artist’s Own Mental Health Struggles [Interview]

For decades, artist Barbara Cole has captured dynamic photographs of figures floating underwater. Much more than shimmering studies of her subjects, these images often evoke and explore deeper ideas. This approach is reflected in Surfacing, a series of underwater portraits that aims to “open up a dialogue on mental health.” The photographs featured in Surfacing star women submerged in the ocean.
