I've always wondered what it might be like to hibernate in the mountains for the winter. This incredible villa–built directly into the side of an Alpine slope–could be just the ticket! Bjarne Mastenbroek and Christian Mller, from the architecture firms SeARCH and CMA, collaborated in 2009 to build this vacation home near the world famous thermal springs of Vals in Switzerland. Authorities in the area, generally cautious about modern construction, found the design concept to fit perfectly into the landscape without creating any visual disruptions, which was key to the success of the Villa.
To gain access to the home, visitors must enter via an old barn and walk along an underground tunnel. Once inside, plenty of light streams in from the large amounts of windows as well as the giant glass faade. The house can sleep up to 10 adults and provides incredible privacy due to the nature of the location. And because it is built on a slanted mountain, the upwards angles guarantee spectacular views of the gorgeous surroundings.
Depending on the season and what days of the week you want to visit, the space can be rented anywhere from 950 to 3850. I can definitely picture myself in this cozy home, snuggling up next to the fire after a long day of skiing. Yes, please!
