A few months ago, we got to see Alberto Seveso's amazing talents for capturing colorful swirls of liquid in water in these fragmented ink portraits. In addition to his stunning and surprising images of faces, the Italian artist developed these inventive, miniature toy surfing scenes. Featuring just a small Lego figure and wispy curls of blue ink, the artist documented the energy and motion of surfing in a series of still photographs, entitled Ink Riders. He describes the project by saying, “There's a place where people can ride the ink.”
The rich blue tangles seem so tangible, viewers will want to reach out and touch the waves. In much of Seveso's work, his distinct style of curling inks, segmented faces, and illustrated splatters across photos suggests a more serious and dramatic side to the artist. In Ink Riders, though, we get to see a bit more of the artist's playful side as he skillfully catches good angles, fierce waves, and the dramatic wipeouts of his fearless Lego surfer.
