On February 6, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS will make his UK museum debut in a big way–quite literally. His colossal sculptures will grace the outdoor grounds of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton, England. They'll include six wooden and fiberglass figures that stand between 6 and 10 meters tall, adding a playful pop culture twist to the natural scenery.
KAWS' characters–reminiscent of Disney's Mickey Mouse–often appear together, like a parent and child. Despite being born of fantasy, these sculptures convey human emotions thanks to their expressive body language. KAWS poses them with slumped shoulders and faces hidden in their hands, communicating feelings of lament and despair. At the same time, other figures comfort them and display moments of compassion.
The impressive sculptures are only one part of KAWS' exhibition. He will show over 20 works, including an indoor component of bright paintings displayed in the Longside Gallery. All pieces will be on view until June 12, 2016.
