Photographer Mark Laita captures the plentiful patterns and beautifully vibrant colors of marine life that can be found submerged in the oceans in his ongoing series of animal portraits. Following his series Serpentine, which focused on multihued snakes from around the world, Laita has compiled this similar collection of varicolored and multi-patterned underwater creatures titled Sea, revealing an unbelievably photogenic array of water treading life forms.
Set against a blank, black backdrop, these fish and various forms of aquatic organisms pop with color, radiating a liveliness through the crystal clear water that spotlights their unique personalities. Laita's beautifully vivid and exotic subjects, from the polychromatic Richmond Wrasse (above) to the leopard printed Leopard Whiptail Stringray, offer their own distinctly eye-catching aesthetic.
Laita's Sea collection is currently available to purchase as an immersive photo book by the same name.
