Incredible Photo Captures Comet ATLAS and the Milky Way in the Mojave Desert

Travel photographer Dan Zafra of Capture the Atlas has a knack for putting himself in a position to take exceptional images. So it comes as no surprise that when given the chance to document a rare astronomical event, he was up for the challenge. Zafra traveled to a conservation area outside Las Vegas to capture Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS, or Comet A3, as it fell through the sky.

Astonishing Photo of Millions of Monarch Butterflies Wins 2024 European Wildlife Photographer of the Year Contest

Jaime Rojo's image of an incredible butterfly sanctuary rose to the top of 18,000 photographs submitted to the 2024 European Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. Organized by the German Society for Nature Photographers (GDT), the contest honors the talents of Europe's wildlife photographers. In the Forest of the Monarchs won Rojo the overall prize and was captured while the photographer was on assignment for National Geographic Magazine.

Magical Images of Fireflies Lighting up Japan’s Forests at Night

Every summer, the forests of Japan’s Yamagata prefecture come alive with the dreamlike, warm lights of thousands of fireflies. Photographer Kazuaki Koseki has set out to capture this charming phenomenon with his camera.
