This Layers Cloud chair is an inventive design created with modern flair and innovative style. Using precision and immense detail, Dutch designer Richard Hutten developed the seat with patterns of fabric layered together into arrangements that create texture similar to layers of rock.
The unique concept is composed of 545 pieces–more than 2,700 feet–of colorful Divina fabric by Kvadrat, Europe's leading manufacturer of design textiles. The material is 100% wool, but it has a smooth surface similar to felt. Hutten drew the shapes and cut the fabric for the final design with a CNC machine, and then manually assembled the chair using 100 unique colors. He used the fabric as the central focus of the piece, stating “I wanted the design to be about the textile. Rather than using the material as a cover, I created an object with the material.”
The piece will be debuted at the 2014 Salone del Mobile in Milan this month as part of the Kvadrat's Divina exhibition. Not only does the concept look great, but with a name like “cloud” chair, how could you not want to take a seat!
