In his ongoing series, Genesis, Brazilian photographer Sebastio Salgado takes us on an exciting journey to see the world from new perspectives. His elegant black and white images focus on shadows, lights, textures, shapes, and patterns found in the harmonious and peaceful compositions of a world untouched by the chaos of modern life.
Nature-loving Salgado is inspired by a respect for our environment and recognizes the importance of preserving the spectacular beauty found all around us. From 2005-2011, Salgado ventured out on more than 30 trips to explore and document our planet in all of its natural, untouched wonder.
Salgado believes that we can redirect human tendencies towards a non-destructive existence and, he explains, “Genesis is the search for the origin of the world, the one that has evolved for thousands of years before dealing with the pace of modern life and forget what makes us human. The [project] presents landscapes, animals, and people who were able to escape from this kind of world, paying tribute to distant regions in which, untouched and quiet, nature still reigns in all its majesty.”
