Winners for the 2016 Washington Post Travel Contest have yet to be announced, but it's already evident that there are plenty of incredible, wanderlust-inciting submissions. While entries are limited to amateur photographers, the competition is tough for the annual contest's 17th year. Gift certificates to a photo retailer will be awarded to selected winners, but what may be even more valuable to some is the pride that comes with a winning submission. Dick Snyder, 2015's first place winner with his entry, titled Fog-shrouded coast, says he originally selected the particular photo for submission because it had won photo of the year from the Coastal Camera Club in his home town of Lewes, Delaware. “That boosted my confidence,” Snyder said. He can now proudly attribute two awards to the photo.
This year's submissions range from stunning coastlines to historic cities, to adorable wildlife. The contest ended on July 31st, and winners will be notified on August 18th and announced on August 28th.
