The easily spooked might want to avert their eyes, but those with a taste for horror (plus a healthy dose of hilarity) will be delighted by the @kayakowithtoshio Instagram account, which situates the sinister mother-son duo from Ju-On—the original Japanese version of The Grudge—in average day-to-day scenes. The ghostly Kayako and Toshio are shown sharing everything from meals to side-by-side swings at the park, seeming to convey a charmingly contentious mother-son bond—all haunting expressions aside, of course.
The account is intended to promote SADAKO VS KAYAKO, a new film from NBC Universal Japan and media company Kadokawa. The movie mash-up, to be released this summer, will pit Kayako against Sadako, the ghoulish girl from Ringu, aka The Ring.
