Pet and wildlife photographer Alex Cearns believes that our canine companions can teach us a lot about relaxation, so she decided to explore this idea in a series called Zen Dogs. “Dogs don't sweat the small stuff,” the photographer told The Huffington Post. “They are spontaneous and carefree.” Each unique photo delves into this exact perspective. An adorable pup who appears to be meditating (with eyes closed and all) is showcased as the star of each snapshot. Some are even displaying a euphoric smile as a testament to their happiness.
In order for Cearns to capture this moment of calmness, she had to patiently wait for the dogs to blink. She'd time the number of seconds in between blinks and then wait for the perfect moment to strike for her shot. “To be honest, I can really only catch the photo if [the dogs] are relaxed and peaceful – so each photo is an authentic photo,” says Cearns. During photo shoots, which typically run an hour long each, the photographer does not hold back. She has been known to take upwards of 300 photos to capture that one perfect moment of serenity.
As viewers scroll through her adorably delightful photographs, Cearns hopes that they will also take a moment to find peace in the chaos of their daily lives.
