Jessica Stewart is a Staff Editor and Digital Media Specialist for My Modern Met, as well as a curator and art historian. Since 2020, she is also one of the co-hosts of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. She earned her MA in Renaissance Studies from University College London and now lives in Rome, Italy. She cultivated expertise in street art which led to the purchase of her photographic archive by the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia in 2014. When she’s not spending time with her three dogs, she also manages the studio of a successful street artist. In 2013, she authored the book "Street Art Stories Roma" and most recently contributed to "Crossroads: A Glimpse Into the Life of Alice Pasquini." Watch Orphaned Chimpanzee Drink Water From Photographer’s Hands

Thanks to a video posted online, a French photographer is reminding the world of chimpanzees' intelligence and sensitivity. JC Pieri was in Cameroon at a sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees run by Papaye International when he had a moving experience with a young chimp. The clip begins with Pieri and the primate hunched over a small water source as we see the chimpanzee start to unbutton the photographer's shirt.

Artist’s Ephemeral Earth Murals Turn Floating Ice and Desolate Deserts Into Masterpieces

When we last checked in on Finland-based artist David Popa, he was creating incredible murals inspired by his environment. Using only charcoal, chalk, and natural pigments, Popa uses Earth as his canvas. Whether created on ice, snow, dirt, or sand, his ephemeral art is mesmerizing. For those interested in how he produces his murals, Popa often posts videos of his creative process. In one video, we see him working on a floating piece of ice.

World’s Largest Coastal Regeneration Project Will Plant 100 Million Mangroves in Dubai

In a move to integrate ecological preservation with urban development, Dubai-based urban planning firm URB has created Dubai Mangroves. The initiative calls for the planting of more than 100 million mangrove trees over nearly 50 miles, as well as a botanical museum, conservation center, and visitor hub. By balancing the needs of the planet with the needs of humans, URB is hoping to demonstrate that urban growth and environmental responsibility can work hand in hand.

15 Awe-Inspiring Images of Our Galaxy from the 2024 Milky Way Photographer of the Year

For the seventh year, travel blog Capture the Atlas has celebrated our galaxy with its Milky Way Photographer of the Year collection. These 25 images of the Milky Way were singled out as exceptional examples of astrophotography and are awe-inspiring looks at the Milky Way. The photographs, taken in 15 different countries—from the United States and Argentina to New Zealand and France—were selected from the more than 5,000 images submitted to this year's competition.
