Artist Knits Giant Blanket Celebrating Copenhagen’s Colorfully Distinct Architecture

Artist Jake Henzler (also known as Boy Knits World) creates whimsical knitted art inspired by the colorful traditional architecture of Copenhagen. He began the project while living abroad in the Danish capital, using the rainbow mosaic of the cityscape as inspiration for a one-of-a-kind, quilt-like blanket called Copenhagen Building Blocks. The Australian artist based each “block” of the large blanket on a different district of the city that includes Nørrebro, Frederiksberg, and Østerbro.

Artist Nikolaos Kafasis—also known as Nikolas Tower—combines watercolor and gouache to create rich, character-driven fantasy worlds. His paintings feature unusual, mystical women surrounded by abstract backgrounds of flowing colors, and often, layered with details in dazzling gold leaf. The artist draws upon several areas of inspiration in his paintings. Learn How Donatello’s ‘David’ Statue Paved the Way for Sculptors in the Renaissance

The biblical character of David was a highly popular subject in Renaissance art, perhaps made most famous by Michelangelo's marble interpretation. Before him, however, the Florentine sculptor Donatello (c. 1386-1466) created an evocative bronze-cast representation of David that stands apart from its successors. The metal depiction shows the young shepherd boy after he has already slain the opponent Goliath and is stepping on the enemy's decapitated head.
