Dreamy Photos of Solitary Figures in Foggy Landscapes

In this series of photos by Martin Vlach, solitary figures stand in hazy, black-and-white landscapes. Martin uses minimal visual elements to create compelling moods in his photos. Several times, he even uses heavy fog to wipe out all of the surrounding detail, leaving his subjects with only a blank backdrop of grey. The emotion Martin emphasizes in these dreamy images is very specific.

Majestic Life-Size Horses Made of Scavanged Driftwood

British-born James Doran-Webb created these incredible life-size horses out of salvaged driftwood as a part of an ongoing series of animal sculptures. Fascinated by the representation of motion in sculpture, he strives to generate a strong sense of energy in every animal he makes. Having lived for many years in the Philippines, Doran-Webb built up an extensive network of driftwood gatherers to help him with his art.

Beautifully Detailed Drawings Burnt into Pieces of Wood

Eben Cavanagh Rautenbach, artistically known as LeRoc, uses a soldering iron to create detailed illustrations on pieces of wood. This art of decorative burning is called pyrography or pyrogravure. When LeRoc first became interested in pyrography, he started drawing with only a lighter, a nail and a pair of pliers. Thankfully, his aunt gave him an old soldering iron and he has been hooked ever since.

Hyperrealistic Resin Sculptures of Dangling Korean Noodles

Artist Seung Yul Oh recreates common Korean noodle dishes, but with a spectacular twist. Using synthetic resin, a pair of chopsticks float 12-feet-high, with dangling noodles flowing all the way down into the bowl. Seung Yul Oh was born in Seoul, South Korea and got his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He now lives and works between Auckland and Seoul.
