Dreamy Photos of Solitary Figures in Foggy Landscapes

In this series of photos by Martin Vlach, solitary figures stand in hazy, black-and-white landscapes. Martin uses minimal visual elements to create compelling moods in his photos. Several times, he even uses heavy fog to wipe out all of the surrounding detail, leaving his subjects with only a blank backdrop of grey.

The emotion Martin emphasizes in these dreamy images is very specific. While there is a sense of melancholy, they are not sad and while the figures are alone, they are not lonely. There is a magic to these captivating scenes where whales float through the sky and the rest of the world disappears.
