Distinctive Design Museum Has a Form Inspired by Rocky Mountain Peaks

A unique art museum design has opened its doors in Northern China. Created by renowned architecture firm Foster + Partners, the Datong Art Museum appears as a collection of intersecting pyramidal forms surrounded by landscape. Inspiration for the museum came from the idea of rocky mountain peaks. The building is one of four major structures designed for Datong New City’s cultural plaza.

5 Beautiful Buildings by Luis Barragán, the Mexican Modernist and Master of Color

The architecture of Luis Barragán breaks some of the unspoken rules of modernism. Modernist architecture is often characterized as colorless since it utilizes raw concrete, natural wood, and simple materials. But Barragán used color and light to breathe life into his buildings. Though he often employed the same bold gestures and simple moves of more traditional modernist buildings, his colorful works also celebrated the playful colors of Mexico.

Zaha Hadid Architects Design “Infinite Ring” Buildings to Inspire Connection Inside and Out

Capitalizing on a clever play of words, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has designed a stunning infinity-shaped headquarters for Infinitus China. The project, called Infinitus Plaza, is made up of two distinct buildings joined with sinuous bridges that create the infinity shape through connections on different levels. Though connectivity is a clear theme through formal gestures in the building, it was also a critical factor in the design of the workspaces within.

Innovative Architectural Proposal Wants To Build Houses With 3D-Printed “Exoskeletons”

The housing development proposal Madre Natura is a concept for modular and sustainable structures that would be 3D-printed with steel. Inspired by Italian sculptor and muralist Costantino Nivola’s piece titled  La Madre, the buildings combine architecture and sculpture in one beautiful form. Mask Architects, the designers behind the proposal, would be the first architects to use what they describe as a 3D-printed exoskeleton construction called Exosteel.
