Architectural ‘Vanishing House’ Installation Provides a Place of Peaceful Memory

The installation called The Vanished House exists as almost a specter on the grass. The structure is made of a weathered metal that looks like delicate ivy as it twists up the walls and roof, leaving some areas partially formed while others not at all. Designed by Field Conforming Studio, the piece was set in a tranquil cemetery of Wuhan Shimenfeng Memorial Park in Wuhan, China.

Mesmerizing Human Faces Emerge From Carefully Sculpted Metal Wires

Human faces come to life in the industrial sculptures of Darius Hulea. The Romania-based artist uses iron, stainless steel, brass, and copper as the materials for expressive portraits inspired by history and mythology. Inspired by the sketches of old masters, Hulea translates the quickness and fluidity of drawing into three-dimensional forms. Despite the rigidity of his medium, his portfolio of sculptures displays a looseness and spontaneity not often associated with metal.

The Smithsonian Announces Possible Locations for New Museums for Women and Latinos

The Smithsonian is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, compromising of 19 museums. And, in the next decade or so, the institution intends on adding another two museums to its collection. One is the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum and the other is the National Museum of the American Latino. Both of these projects have been in the works for several years but were only authorized by Congress in 2020.

Largest Permanent Collection of Mexican American Art Opens in Riverside, California

This June, a new creative hub has opened in Southern California. The Riverside Art Museum in the Inland Empire debuted The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture. This $11 million addition is named after East LA-born actor, comedian, and art collector, Cheech Marin, who generously donated his collection of 550 paintings, sculptures, and other artworks to the museum.
