Mesmerizing Human Faces Emerge From Carefully Sculpted Metal Wires

Human faces come to life in the industrial sculptures of Darius Hulea. The Romania-based artist uses iron, stainless steel, brass, and copper as the materials for expressive portraits inspired by history and mythology. Inspired by the sketches of old masters, Hulea translates the quickness and fluidity of drawing into three-dimensional forms. Despite the rigidity of his medium, his portfolio of sculptures displays a looseness and spontaneity not often associated with metal.

Artist Transforms Discarded Paintbrushes Into Exquisite Character Portraits

Old paintbrushes are given a renewed purpose in the art of Rebecca Szeto. The San Francisco-based artist transforms the used tools into model figurines inspired by history, contemporary society, and the untapped potential of discarded materials. Entitled Paintbrush Portraits, these miniature works of art reimagine the form of the brush into delicately handpainted women wearing ornate, old-fashioned dresses that follow the body of the bristled utensil.

Fun and Functional Glass Decanters Double as Elegant Animal Sculptures

Glass decanters are beautiful objects that add presentation style to wine, alcohol, and other liquids. American artist Charlie Matz adds his own twist to these classic serving jugs by creating decanters with exquisite sculptural elements inspired by animals. Fish, crabs, jellyfish, and more adorn the tops of these exquisite pieces, transforming them into fine art. Matz currently works at the Chicago-based glass studio Ignite Glass.
