This Wave-Shaped Art Museum in China Is Covered With 13,000 Aluminum “Scales”

The Wave or Shimao is a new art museum in Tianjin, China. This new cultural amenity is just one of the entertainment opportunities in the popular business district that also includes the Binhai Matsu Cultural Park and the Binhai Aircraft Theme Park. Lacime Architects designed The Wave to symbolize the space where the sea meets the shore. The museum benefits from an ideal site with open green spaces, small beach areas, and an accessible waterfront.

Spiraling Museum in Switzerland Designed to Mimic the Swirling Mechanics of a Watch

Architectural design team Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) recently finished its contemporary extension of Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet's historic premises. Nestled next to the historic home where Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet set up their workshop in 1875, the Danish architecture firm has created a contemporary spiral that rises from the earth.

Architects Transform Grain Silos into Africa’s Largest Art Museum

At 100,000 square feet, the Zeitz MOCAA is set to be the largest museum to open on the African continent in more than a hundred years. This landmark museum, which will exhibit contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, is more than deserving of a grand architectural monument to house the collection. By hollowing out a historic grain silo, British architect Thomas Heatherwick has created a piece of architecture worthy of the museum.
