Woman Playing Cards Wins “World’s Largest Photo Competition”

German photo printing company CEWE has just announced the winners of its photo competition, which it says is the world's largest. Indonesian photographer Dikye Ariani was the overall winner for her image of a woman immersed in a card game with locals at a traditional Indonesian café, or “Warung Kopi.” Ariani's slice-of-life image won out over the 509,612 photos submitted by amateur and professional photographers around the world.

Leica Honors Legendary Photographer Elliott Erwitt With Its Hall of Fame Award

Legendary Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt is being honored with the Leica Hall of Fame Award 2023. To celebrate, Erwitt has selected 50 of his iconic images for an exhibition on view at the Leica Gallery in Wetzlar through the end of January 2024. In addition, one of his images, which cleverly shows someone sitting on a stoop in New York with their bulldogs, has also been selected as the Leica Picture of the Year.

Polar Bears and Ethereal Landscapes Are This Photographer’s Postcards From the Arctic Circle [Interview]

For eight days, photographer Drew Doggett floated in the Arctic waters of Svalbard, Norway. Doggett made his way up north and climbed aboard a research vessel for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that brought him up to the 80th parallel north. From there, he was able to document the ethereal landscape while also actively seeking out polar bears. His new limited edition series, Northern Dreams, is the result of this journey.
