New York City is widely recognized as one of the greatest metropolitan areas in the world. It's fascinating to see the rapid evolution of its skyline from 1879 to 2013, when One World Trade Center will be complete. Within that long time frame, the city has lived through many transformative events, including the Great Depression in the 30's and September 11th in 2001.

Bird's Eye View of City Life

Hungarian-born photographer Adam Magyar shows us what it's like to have a bird's eye view of city life. For his series Squares, Magyar observed thousands of people bustling in central urban spaces. He photographed in New York all the way to Tokyo to capture the art that lies in the city. To create these wonderful photos, Magyar combined hundreds of photos of people walking at a close range.

As an architectural and interior photographer in New York specializing in luxury projects, Evan Joseph has climbed onto extraordinary terraces and exclusive roofs. After a decade of shooting skyline views, however, he went in search of an even loftier angle. Nowhere to look but up, he took to the skies. Working closely with a pilot, Joseph shoots New York City in a helicopter at night.
