Beautifully Preserved Bird Nests From the 20th Century

Nature is filled with such fascinating animals that create everything from magnificently designed spiderwebs to mystifying cocoons. In particular, San Francisco-based photographer Sharon Beals is interested in birds and how they build their nests. Over the course of two centuries, egg and nest specimens have been collected and preserved and many of the samples featured here are specifically from the Cornell Museum of Vertebrates.

Surreal Images of New York City Placed in the Grand Canyon

Lithuanian-born, Switzerland-based photographer Gus Petro took a trip to America in 2012, in search of something new, and made two contrasting stops–the Grand Canyon and New York City–that has inspired his three-part series known as Empty, Dense, Merge. In Empty, Petro captures the vacant landscape emitting a sense of peace and solitude. Alternatively, Dense presents the crowded urban landscape of the Big Apple that seemed almost entirely manmade and hard.

Strangers Pose Together in Intimate Family Portraits

When the whole family gets together, it's not unusual to mark the special occasion with a family portrait. Some families coordinate outfits, everyone crams together, and someone is always grumpy about having to pose for the picture. It's quality family time that, at some point, just about everyone has experienced. Interested in this dynamic, New York-based photographer Jamie Diamond created a collection of what appear to be conventional family portraits.
