Conservation Photographer Documents Last Two Northern White Rhinos on Earth [Interview]

The plight of the Northern white rhinoceros puts into clear focus the threats that face all endangered species. The lone remaining members—Najin and Fatu—are closely guarded at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and carry the hope of the entire species. Their story intrigued Indian-American wildlife photographer Mital Patel, who traveled to Africa to document their story and learn more about the caretakers who dedicate their lives to protecting them.

Adventurers Taking an Icy Plunge Wins the 2024 Drone Photo Awards

A group of adventurers taking an icy plunge won the 2024 Drone Photo Awards. The image, taken by Israeli photographer Gilad Topaz, was captured in the frigid waters of the Baltic Sea as the entire group enjoyed a dip in a pool carved out by their boat. Topaz's winning photograph beat out 4,000 aerial images submitted by over 2,000 photographers from 113 countries to win the grand prize.

Less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene caused destruction in six southeastern states, a new disaster seems to be brewing. Hurricane Milton, feared to be the storm of the century, is already looming over Florida. The proportions of this storm are nothing to joke about. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) have shared some unnerving images of how Hurricane Milton looks from space.

Stunning Images of Comet A3 Captured by Astronauts Aboard the ISS

Astronauts Matthew Dominick and Don Pettit are well known for their photography skills, capturing sweeping vistas from the International Space Station (ISS). Over the last few days, the astronauts have been following Comet A3 (Tsuchinshan–Atlas), discovered by astronomers early last year and thought to orbit the Sun about every 80,000 years. The comet made its closest approach to the Sun at the end of September.
