Incredible Winning Photos From the 2021 Bird Photographer of the Year Contest

Over 22,000 images from photographers around the world flooded into the sixth annual Bird Photographer of the Year contest. It was Mexican photographer Alejandro Prieto who took home the top prize for his haunting photo of a Greater Roadrunner staring down the immense border wall between the United States and Mexico. Wrapped in barbed wire, the wall looms large over the perplexed animal. Prieto won a £5,000 ($6,900)

Photographer Captures Proud Lion Standing Triumphantly on a Hill of Bones

LA-based photographer Simon Needham was spending time at the GG Conservation in South Africa when he came upon a spectacular sight. Atop a mound of bones, an enormous lion stood proudly, surveying his land. The atmospheric sky that surrounded him enhanced the ambiance, as the golden light mirrored the animal's golden fur. It was the perfect photo. Needham, who often works with non-profits, was in South Africa to help the sanctuary with their promotional content.
