The Daegu International Bodypainting Festival is an annual celebration of body art. Talented artists from around the world gather in South Korea and let their imaginations run wild as they demonstrate the artistry of body painting. Competing in different categories, artists combine makeup and costume for incredible results that make the contest one of the most photo-worthy events you'll see all year.
The Daegu International Bodypainting Festival has taken place since 2008 and this year's theme was “Love.” Prizes of up to $9,000 are awarded for the best bodypainting, fantasy make-up, and model. Sixty-one teams from 14 countries entered the 2018 contest, each using the body as a canvas to display their best work.
“Most of the artists are experts and students in related fields,” shared Moon Jong-ho, one of the organizers. “We express the differences in culture according to our community or personal experience in our works and increase our understanding of various cultures through comparison with other people's works.”
Visitors to the festival were also treated to free face painting and nail art, allowing everyone to get in on the fun. But the real focus was on the artists and models. Whether integrated with the glitz and glam of a costume or displayed without accessories, the body art on show was a sight to behold.
