Grand Canyon Whitewater is Our Next Unique Experience!

If you're an avid reader of My Modern Met, you know that our passion lies in three main categories – art, photography, and design. Within the last year, our goal has been to step it up a notch and show you, first-hand, unique, modern day experiences from all around the world. Our Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Alice, was invited to Australia to cover the bustling art scene at Vivid Sydney, and just over a week ago, I flew out to Alaska for a surreal hike on top of Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park.

Our next journey is one that I've been eyeing closely, especially over the past year. The Grand Canyon is often rated the #1 Natural Wonder to visit in North America…and for good reason. It overwhelms our senses through its immense size. Almost two billion years of Earth's history have been exposed on its towering walls as the Colorado River, over the past 17 million years, cut a path down through the Colorado Plateau. Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate a unique canyon that is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide, and over a mile (1.6km) deep.

I reached out to one of the highest-rated rafting companies, Grand Canyon Whitewater, and they graciously offered to take me out on a trip where I'll be able to share this unique experience directly with you. The four-day Upper Canyon trip will combine thrilling world-class whitewater rafting with deep exploration within the Canyon. Side hikes from the river will lead to crystal clear creeks to discover waterfalls, venture through hidden canyons, and uncover evidence of ancient inhabitants concealed from most Grand Canyon visitors. On the morning of the fourth, and final day, I will trek home, in an arduous 9-mile hike from the Colorado River to the South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail.

I'm both honored and thrilled that, in just a couple weeks, I'll be able to bring this exclusive coverage to you. I'll be taking photos and videos while I'm there, along with a journal to jot down my notes. To visually understand what this trip is all about, I asked Lindsay Winter of Grand Canyon Whitewater to send over photos taken from some past trips. As you can see, we're in for quite an amazing adventure!
