Eager to leave their comfort zones and “embark on a little creative exploration,” South African couple Chanel Cartell and Stevo Dirnberger have dedicated their time to traveling the world. In 2015, the pair quit their 9-to-5 jobs and set off on a 2-year adventure. This trip around the globe brought them to 40 countries and culminated in a comprehensive collection of photographs, which the duo has creatively compiled into a unique series of artistic composites.

Aptly titled Scenes from Around the World: A Mash-Up Project, this unique series features cleverly combined photos of landmarks and landscapes from countries across the globe. Intended to illustrate “how similar the world can actually appear,” each photograph seamlessly blends seemingly dissimilar architecture and nature into cohesive scenes. From suspension bridges to sunsets, the subject matter showcases the unexpected similarities shared by unrelated locations.

The clever collection of photos also illustrates the couple's attention to detail and collage-inspired approach to documenting their travels. This interest in art has played a prominent role in their journey, as it enables them to use their travels as a platform for self-expression. “When we’re not cramming kilometers in busy cities,” Chanel explains, “we’re finding every opportunity to experiment, brainstorm, and create.”

On their couple travel blog, How Far From Home, Chanel Cartell and Stevo Dirnberger have shared a photo mashup collection of scenes from around the world.
