It’s no secret that STEM careers aren’t exactly teeming with women. So, when it comes to making friends in those fields, chances are a woman is going to have more than a few male confidants. For computer engineer Rebeca Brantes, this was a problem she was facing as she prepared for her wedding. According to the bride-to-be, she didn’t have any girlfriends to fill the role of bridesmaids for her wedding. But instead of feeling bad, Brantes had a brilliant idea. Why not take getting ready wedding photos with her “bros?” Her male friends were game, so together they participated in a hilarious take on the typical bridal photo shoot.
Brantes came up with this fun idea a week before her wedding. “I was looking into some ‘making of’ pictures of brides with their gang of girls,” she explained to Bored Panda, “all in robes, laughing, drinking champagne and all, and I got a bit sad because I wouldn’t be able to do anything like that.” Using those scenes as inspiration, photographer Fernando Duque Fotografia captured her guy friends clad in silky pink robes doing the typical wedding prep. They shave together, help the bride with her makeup, and of course, fawn over the wedding dress. It's both endearing and impressive—the bros really get into their role as bridesmaids.
The unconventional bridal photo shoot was a roaring success. “The photo shoot was super fun,” Brante recalls. “Everyone was taking shots of cheap booze and sometimes we were laughing so much that we had to take some time to recover and go on with the photos.”
