Korean Artist Sews Together Broken Ceramic Shards With 24K Gold

The fragile nature of ceramics makes them objects of beauty that can easily show the wear of time. Korean artist Yee Sookyung has pushed this concept beyond its limits with her ongoing Translated Vase series. Since 2002 the well regarded artist, whose work is in the collections of The British Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Seoul Museum of Art, has used discarded ceramics like a jigsaw puzzle, piecing them together one by one.

Company Commemorates Life With Ceramics Made From the Ashes of Loved Ones

After experiencing a personal loss, designer Justin Crowe set about innovating new ways to keep the spirit of loved ones alive. Growing from his art project Nourish, where the ashes of 200 people were mixed to create dinnerware, Chronicle Cremation Designs was born. This newly formed company creates bespoke ceramics with a glaze that incorporates cremation ashes—whether human or pet.

Eccentric Characters of the Streets of Japan Captured on Film

Photographer Shinya Arimoto likes to show a different side of Japan—the one he sees on the streets, filled with eccentric characters. Born in Osaka, Arimoto is currently a professor of photography at the Tokyo School of Visual Arts, as well as the director of the Totem Pole Photo Gallery. When he's not at work, Arimoto can be found roaming the streets, interacting with his subjects.
