Layered Landscapes (6 pics)

Fukuoka, Japan-born artist Nobuhiro Nakanishi has created a mesmerizing series called Layered Drawings that we'd love to see in person. Nakanishi uses a laser print to mount his photos onto plexiglass acrylic. Though we could enjoy each slice on its own, taken together, they produce a magnificent effect. “The theme of my work is: the physical that permeates into the art piece,” he says.

Desaturated Santa 2010 (10 photos)

Brody S. is at it again, confusing people at San Francisco's 2010 Santacon with her Desaturated Santa costume. At first glance, it's easy to assume that these images were photoshopped. Amazingly, they were not. To create the illusion, Brody wears a custom black-and-white Santa Claus costume, a grey wig, contacts, and Kryolan body paint.

Scotland’s Giant Mermaid (8 photos)

Standing 33 feet tall, a giant metal mermaid guards the entrance to the Scottish town of Cumbernauld. Her name is Arria, and she is beautiful. Designed by English sculptor Andy Scott, Arria stretches out her arms towards the town as if to protect it. The sculpture costs over $400,000, but residents are hopeful that she will bring them prosperity and good luck.

Falcon-Inspired Museum by Foster + Partners

Foster + Partners recently unveiled this design for a museum on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. Named after UAE founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Zayed National Museum will be dedicated to the history and culture of the country. Because of the Sheikh's love for falcons, the museum will feature five lightweight steel towers that resemble the wings of the bird.
