17-Year-Old Designs a Motor That Could Change How Electric Cars Are Made

Electric cars are helping us forge a more eco-friendly future. However, one environmental and design barrier to truly easy, sustainable-to-produce cars is the motors. Most electric vehicle (EV) motors use rare-earth elements in their internal magnets which generate the required torque to power the motor. These elements—including neodymium, samarium, and dysprosium—are very expensive and their mining is detrimental to the environment.

Artist Cleverly Harnesses the Shapes of Shadows to Create Quirky Characters

Belgian artist and filmmaker Vincent Bal uses unexpected techniques to complete his illustrations. Using an array of household objects, he casts distinct shadows over the paper. These shapes then become the inspiration and foundation for quirky drawings of cartoon characters. Entitled Shadowology, this ongoing series began in 2016 when Bal was working on a film.

110-Million-Year-Old Dinosaur Tracks in Texas Riverbed Emerge as Waters Recede

Drought is a pressing problem across much of the United States at present. Texas, especially, is suffering from extremely dry conditions. This has caused rivers to recede, including the Paluxy River, which runs through the Dinosaur Valley State Park. As the water levels fell, they exposed dramatic 110-million-year-old footprints left by an ancient dinosaur. Dinosaur Valley State Park is located nearby the city of Glen Rose.
