Innovative Architectural Proposal Wants To Build Houses With 3D-Printed “Exoskeletons”

The housing development proposal Madre Natura is a concept for modular and sustainable structures that would be 3D-printed with steel. Inspired by Italian sculptor and muralist Costantino Nivola’s piece titled  La Madre, the buildings combine architecture and sculpture in one beautiful form. Mask Architects, the designers behind the proposal, would be the first architects to use what they describe as a 3D-printed exoskeleton construction called Exosteel.

Explore Rembrandt’s Famous Painting “The Night Watch” in New 717-Gigapixel Photo

Rembrandt van Rijn is perhaps the most well-known of the Dutch Masters. During the Golden Age of the Netherlands, his expressive brushwork conjured realistic scenes and expressive portraits. The Night Watch is chief among his masterpieces. The iconic painting is a 12-by-14-foot canvas illustrating 34 figures of an early modern militia. Now, this monumental work can be explored in microscopic detail through a 717-gigapixel photograph of the work.

Architects Convert an Old Abandoned Barn in Iceland Into a Beautiful Artist’s Studio

Architecture firm Bua Studio recently completed a stunning adaptive reuse of a dilapidated barn in Iceland, transforming the structure into an artist’s studio and residence. Titled Hloduberg Artist’s Studio, the project includes work spaces on the lower level and the residence above. The architects carefully worked with the barn’s original structure to protect the fragile walls in a garden and utilize other portions as a façade for the new building.
