The 1970s classic children’s book series Frog and Toad is a tale of two friends—conveniently named Frog and Toad—and the close bond they share. You might remember reading it while growing up. Artist Kristina McGowan did, and she’s created a charming knitting pattern inspired by the titular characters. The DIY project features Frog and Toad dressed in attire similar to what you’d see in the books.

1,000-Square-Foot Mosaic Honors Pioneering Black Suffragette Ida B. Wells [Interview]

Recently, the U.S. celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment—an amendment that gave some, not all, women the right to vote. To honor the efforts of suffragettes, the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission helped sponsor the creation of a 1,000-foot installation featuring a portrait of a prominent figure of the movement—Ida B. Wells, a Black woman whose story of activism begins over 130 years ago.

Photographer Builds His Own Floating “Bird Hide” To Go Incognito in the Wild

Since 2007, Ray Hennessy has been honing his wildlife photography and, in particular, his passion for birds. Several years ago, he was looking for a way to make himself even more invisible during his photoshoots in order to capture the birds during their normal routines. That's when he came up with an ingenious floating bird hide that would allow him to immerse himself in the water while keeping his equipment safe.
