Vibrant Palette Knife Paintings Create 3D Flowers Out of Layers of Paint

New Zealand-based artist Joshua Davison creates mesmerizing palette knife paintings of flowers that pop off of the canvas. These eye-catching reliefs are composed of dozens of individually crafted petals that burst with color. Although the series originated as a way for the 23-year-old painter to practice color theory, it has since evolved into a study of symmetry, saturation, and contrast.

Majestic Barn Owl Has Spectacular Spotted Plumage That Reminds People of Food

As one of the most widespread birds in the world, the barn owl is also one of the most beautiful. Found on every continent except Antarctica, the medium-sized owl is instantly familiar thanks to its white, heart-shaped face. This is offset by speckled brown plumage, which gives it a distinct contrast and a variety of associations. Some think their spotted feathers look like poppy seeds while others see the color and imagine a toasted marshmallow.

Winners of International Photo Contest Celebrate the Art of Movement

For this year's thematic photo contest by the International Photography Awards, creatives were asked to submit their best single image depicting motion. The results are an incredible look at how this deceivingly simple concept can breed wide-ranging results. Thousands submitted their images to the Movement contest, but the win went to Canadian photographer Anne Mason-Hoerter. Her winning image, Wild Carrots, also took the top prize in the Fine Art category and uses an unusual technique.
