NASA Publishes Extraordinary Satellite View of California Wildflowers in Bloom

Each spring, California's Antelope Valley explodes with color as vast quantities of flowers bloom. While there are several types of wildflowers in the mix, it's the state flower—the California poppy—that is the star of the show. Typically visitors flock to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve to take in the breathtaking scene, but this year is proving a bit different. With the reserve temporarily closed due to COVID-19 measures, in-person poppy watching isn't possible.

Artist Fills Her Sketchbook With Vibrant Floral Gardens That Bloom From Her Brush

Painter Sonal Nathwani creates immersive gardens inside her sketchbooks. Each double-page spread contains a fresh arrangement of flowers, leaves, and stems, which transform the papers into bucolic portals. These romantic illustrations have an incredible energy about them, and they appear to bloom naturally from the artist's brush. Although she currently resides in Vienna, Austria, Nathwani was born to Indian parents in Africa and grew up in England.

This 2,000-Year-Old Sapphire Ring Has an Incredibly Detailed Portrait Carved Into It

In the 18th century, George Spencer, the 4th Duke of Marlborough, amassed an incredible collection of carved gemstones and cameos. The Marlborough Collection was considered one of the best private jewelry collections and many of the 800 pieces of jewelry date back to antiquity. The collection was broken up in the 19th century to pay for repairs at Blenheim Palace and in 2019, an interesting gemstone from the collection came up for sale.
