RIP Kobe Bryant: How Devastated Fans Are Responding to the Loss With Art

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, the world lost basketball legend Kobe Bryant. The former Los Angeles Lakers player was killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna, along with seven other passengers, were also killed in the tragic accident. As news spread on Sunday afternoon into the evening, people across the globe began to mourn Bryant—considered widely to be the best basketball player of his generation and one who spent his entire 20-year career playing for the Lakers. Bryant left behind his wife Vanessa and their three other daughters, one of which was born in June of 2019.

Devastated fans took to social media to express their grief over Bryant and his daughter’s deaths. Those that are artistically inclined used their creative abilities to share touching tribute art featuring Bryant and his daughter. They did so in a variety of ways—from coffee to collage to the more conventional drawing and painting. But each image is its own unique homage to honor Bryant’s contributions to the sport of basketball, his dedication to his family, and the sadness over these devastating losses.
